Unlawful Employment of AliensThe Senate bill introduces new provisions to ensure the employers do not employee aliens unlawfully and introduces an Electronic Employment Verification System. Furthermore the penalties for knowingly hiring unauthorized workers will be tougher than unknowingly hiring them. With the new Electronic Employment Verification System, less documentation will be required for employment verification on the aliens’ part. The House bill also contains a provision to update and increase the efficiency of the current employment verification system. The provisions found in both bills aim at eliminating the employment of illegal aliens. By eliminating employment of illegal aliens, this increases the opportunities for legal immigrants to the US by creating more jobs for them. The new employment verification system will make it easier for legal aliens to show that they are legal and have permission to work in the United States, in some cases allowing them to work sooner.
